What To Expect

Before we talk treatment, we begin with a consultation. This means Dr. Van Nice will review the medical records sent over by your pet’s primary care veterinarian and then conduct a physical and oral exam on your pet while they are awake. He will discuss any problems noted and give you preliminary treatment recommendations which often include further diagnostics and/or preoperative testing. Based on the doctor’s recommendations, we will prepare an estimate and walk you through the prescribed procedure, making sure to answer all of your questions. By following a thorough, step by step process, you will be able to make the most informed decision and your pet will receive the very best care.

Your pet’s primary care veterinarian is an integral part of the health care team. A written referral summary detailing any diagnostic tests and/or procedures performed will be sent back to them for your pet’s permanent medical record.

Please note: Animal Dental Services does not offer routine oral health care (dental cleanings). Our services are for advanced dental procedures only. If your pet requires a dental cleaning, please contact your primary care veterinarian.

Your may schedule an appointment for a consultation only, or a consultation followed by a procedure the same day. We prefer to schedule everything in one visit if that is convenient for you.

• If you have an appointment for a consultation and examination only, there are no special considerations for feeding or allowing water the morning of your appointment.

• If you have an appointment for a consultation followed by a procedure, do not feed your pet the morning of your appointment. Water is acceptable all night, but no food after midnight the night prior to your appointment.

Please bring any x-rays or copies of laboratory tests (blood tests, biopsy, etc.) that your veterinarian has given you. Also bring with you any medications that your pet is currently receiving. This allows Dr. Van Nice not only to know what your pet is taking, but we can give the medication if necessary during your visit. Your pet will go home in the afternoon, usually between 12-3pm.
